What would you like to know? What is nutrition? Nutrition is about food and our bodies ~ the composition of foods, how the body uses foods, dietary and lifestyle factors that may cause illness and how certain conditions and diseases can be prevented through a healthy diet. What is naturopathic nutrition? Naturopathic nutrition views health in a holistic manner, taking into account the 'whole person' including diet, current and past health, any presenting symptoms, mindset and lifestyle. The guiding principals of naturopathy are: - the healing power of nature: the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself
- identify and treat the cause: look beyond the symptoms to the underlying cause
- first do no harm: use the most natural, least invasive & least toxic therapies
- practitioner as teacher: educate on the steps to achieving and maintaining health
- treat the whole person: view the body as an integrated whole in all its physical and spiritual dimensions
- prevention: focus on overall health, wellness and disease prevention
As a complementary medicine, naturopathic nutrition can be used in conjunction with your conventional medicine needs if required. Whilst we advocate supporting the body's own healing mechanisms in a natural way we also understand the important role modern medicine plays in the life of some individuals. Where appropriate, and with consent, we will contact and discuss any treatment plans with your chosen health care professional(s) to ensure the right solution for you. Natural, wholesome foods ~ what exactly does that mean? Quite simply, foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Those which have not been tampered with, are over processed or have been manufactured almost from scratch. We recommend good fresh wholesome foods that are nutrient dense and low in calories, what your body needs to function and be well. Why is nutrition important? Good food is essential to wellbeing and the link between diet and health has been proven time and again. Each day we make food choices that impact our health, either with benefit or with harm. How can a nutrition consultation help me? A nutrition consultation will provide you with the tools and support to help you make the right choices for optimum nourishment and improved health. For some it will not be a quick fix and possibly a complete overhaul to their current eating patterns and lifestyle will be required. For others it may only be a small tweak that is needed. In any case, the health benefits will be worth it! Some of the conditions where a nutrition consult may benefit: - nutrient deficiencies, malnourishment
